"In this 1 acre area, approximately 25 ash trees had been killed by emerald ash borer (EAB) from 2015 to 2019."
Throughout Shukun Zong’s architectural career, the interaction between space, humans, and nature has always been the central focus in his design development.
In 2023, due to safety concerns, twenty-three dead ash trees on his family property had to be cut down. He kept all the logs on site and reused some for creative projects with his kids.
In the past two years, Shukun has been diligently searching for a way to “preserve” these trees and create an enduring memory of them.
